ANSWER:

The Indus valley civilization was the world’s most urban civilization as it contained more than a thousand cities and settlements. Some of the renowned cities of Indus valley civilization are Harappa, Mohen-Jo-daro, Ganeriwala, Dholavira, Kalibangan, Rupar, Rakhigarhi and Lothal. These cities had well developed drainage systems, waste collection systems, granaries and bath areas. The dwelling areas were bounded by large walls and citadels. They had a well-developed trading system.

EXPLANATION:

Lack of scientific town planning, civic indiscipline and encroachments on the public lanes are a menace to the present-day urban cities. As today’s town planners we should learn that the Indus valley civilization town planning was the most scientifically advanced in terms of town planning, though they used very basic means. The streets were suitably planned to accommodate wheeled traffic and the slight elevation at one end of the street allowed rain water to drain out in a particular direction. Any sort of encroachment on public land was strictly prohibited. The houses had in-house wells and baths which were connected to the underground elaborate drainage system. Adopting these ways can really improve our present scenario.
