Suppose you are trying to pick a location for your new factory/industrial plant. What factors might you look at:
Lowest transportation costs for inputs coming in and shipments to customers going out. Distance is often a factor, although less so if water transportation is involved
Availability of skilled workers
Cost of land and construction
Cost of utilities, eg, electricity, heat, cooling, etc
Temperate areas are often the most densely populated. That’s good for the availability of workers and proximity to markets. Also, heating and air conditioning costs are probably moderate compared with very cold or very hot areas.
If you’re going to locate an industrial plant near the equator or in a high latitude, there’s probably some special requirement - maybe the mine or plantation is nearby, and the product you ship out is much lower volume/weight than the inputs coming in.
