In simple words Inertia can be described as resistance to change. According to Newton, a body in rest continues to be in rest and a body in motion will continue to be in motion until an external force is applied to it. It is the general tendency of an object to move in a straight line at the same speed until it is put to rest.
Inertia
Inertia is a resistance of an object to change in it's velocity and it's motion. The first law of motion is dependent upon inertia. The first law of motion stated that "There is a no change in the position of any object, unless any external unbalanced force acts on it".
Definition of Inertia is also as same as the definition of the first equation of motion. Because, Inertia = First Law of Motion.
- Inertia is a kind of passive property which able or doesn't able to change its position unless any force acts on it.
- If the force acted is balanced force, then there will be no effect.
- Inertia of a body is dependent upon the unbalanced force.
Inertia of direction:
A body travelling in a particular direction at a particular speed cannot change its direction unless any force is being applied on it. The best example of 'Inertia of direction' can be given as:
Rotating wheels water - When the wheels of any vehicle rotate, then we see that, the water attached with them is automatically throughout. This is an example of inertia of direction.
