The northern most region of the country, Ladakh is home to some of the highest mountains. The passes are not just the tallest in India but are considered as the tallest passes worldwide. “La” means Passes and “Dhak” means numerous, and thus Ladakh is known as the “Land of High Passes”.

The climate of the Ladakh desert is extremely cold and dry due to its high altitude which varies from about 3,000 m in Kargil to more than 8,000 m in Karakoram. The air at this altitude is so thin that the heat of the sun can be felt intensely.

Answer:

4. Due to its high altitude, Ladakh is always freezing cold and dry for most of the year. The air is so thin that you can feel the sun's heat intensely. In summers, the temperature during the day is just above zero degrees and the night temperature is much below -30°C.
