Climate classification of Koppen, Thornthwait and Trewartha are mainly accepted.

according to Trewartha, a climate region may be defined as ‘ any portion of the earth’s surface over which the important climatic elements, and therefore the broad climatic characteristics, are similar ( not identical ). And he has classified world climates in to 6 climate type.

And India falls into “ Tropical monsoon climate “

In this type of climate, there is a complete seasonal reversal of winds. On-shore summer winds from over tropical warm oceans are genergenerators of abundant precipitation, while the off-shore winds from over land make the weather dry during winter.

Why ? India comes into Tropical monsoon climate

Temperature :

In the coastal regions of the tropical monsoon climate the temp. Are uniformly warm. The highest temp. are recorded during summer just before the advent of rains when the skies are clear.

During rainy season , avg. Temp. Reduced because of heavy cloud cover.

During winter , the avg. Temp. at inland station may vary from 10° C.

Pressure and winds:

The monsoon circulation is characteristically governed by the migration of ITC. because of heating of landmass and the adjoining oceans, there is a complete reversal of pressure gradient over the huge landmass.

During winter there are centres of high pressure over land so that there is an outflow of air towards the Oceania low pressure centres.

During summer, the land mass develop low pressure centres. Thus centres are reinforced by the ITC which moves suddenly to North. Under these , sea-to-land pressure gradient are established resulting in on-shore winds. Which picks up huge quantities of moisture from oceans .and thus helps in giving rainfall.

Precipitation:

Rains are abundant and intense in tropical monsoon Ares. But there is a dry season, though very short .

In this climate , during summer on -shore winds brings a lot of moisture , when these moisture-laden winds are forced to rise ,abundant precipitation result.

Natural vegetation:

In India, there are different types of natural vegetation ranging from the tropical rain-forest of the Malbar and Assam to the deciduous forest of the areas with moderate rainfall to thorny bushes of the more arid regions with scanty rainfall.

Teak is most valuable timber found in certain part of india , besides shisham , Sal, mahua, mango tree, jamin, neem, many more are of deciduous forest.

The deciduous trees of the monsoon forest are a fine illustration of their adaptability to a wet-dry climate.

Animal life :

In more humid area where forest is dense , flying and climbing species of animal are dominant , in drier regions where the trees are widely spaced with grassland ,large animal constitue the animal kingdom.

Thank you
