The nervous system comprises the central nervous system, consisting of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system, consisting of the cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerves, together with their motor and sensory endings. originate in the brainstem, which includes the midbrain, the pons, and the medulla. The 12 cranial nerves can be divided into sensory, motor, or mixed nerves. Each spinal nerve is formed by the combination of nerve fibers from the dorsaland ventral roots of the spinal cord. The dorsal roots carry afferent sensory axons, while the ventral roots carry efferent motor axons.
