    Sri Krishna Deva Raya was a king in the 17th century of the famous Vijayanagara Dynasty. It was in the south of India. It included parts of present Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala , Tamilnadu, parts of Orissa and South of Maharashtra too.

   He was acclaimed to be a great ruler. He promoted Culture, Arts, Education, Poetry, Writing great manuscripts etc.  He himself was a great warrior and a great poet. He wrote "Amukta Malyada".  He had in his court 8 great poets. They helped rewrite and translate parts of Mahabharata in Telugu from Sankrit.

  He developed and promoted Telugu language, which was not so prominent at that time.  

  He married two wives. He had a child, who was killed due to family disputes among relatives. He had a great minister called Timmarusu.

   Krishnadeva raya's court included great poet and humourist called Tenali Rama Krishna.

    He belonged to Saluva dynasty. He was ruled Vijayanagara from 1509 to 1529.  He took over the reigns after his step brother and King Vira Narasimha Raya died.  He was a victim of enmity among family and relatives and several conspiracies.
 
   He promoted Brahmins and building of temples. He promoted sculptures and sculptors.  He was known for felicitating wise  and knowledgeable pandits.
