Alauddin Hassan established the Bahmani kingdom in AD 1347.

The Bahmanis were passionate of architecture and art. They even encouraged distinct styles with architects from different parts of the Muslim world and blended them with the local styles.


Ala-ud-din Bahman undertook construction of large buildings including the Jama masjid and the Bala Hisar. The monuments of Gulbarga and other construction which included forts, palaces, mosques and tombs, prominent among which are the Rangin Mahal, Gagan Mahal, Chini Mahal and Nagin Mahal .The Persian scholar Mahmud Gawan who was the minister of Muhammad Shah III, built the well-known Madrasa in 1472 AD which stands as a specimen of Bahmani architect.The architectural works also include idgahs (prayer houses) built at Daulatabad, Gulbarga, Bidar and Kovilkonda. Other tombs included the Ala-ud-din Hasan, Muhammad I and Muhammad II at Gulbarga and the tomb of Hazrat Zain-ud-din at Khuldabad. Another significant contribution to the architecture is the Ibrahim Rouza . 'Rouza' meaning garden was built by the ruler Ibrahim. The tomb is known for its minarets, stonework, calligraphic inscriptions, parapets, etc. Gumbaz (the largest dome in the world) and Charminar in Hyderabad are also world-famous examples of Bahamani architecture.


Bahmani Kings patronized Hazrat Banda Nawaz (1321-1422 AD) the great Sufi saint (his dargah of Gulbarga is a pilgrimage to the Hindus and Muslims alike).


The Bahamani Sultans were patrons of the Persian language, culture and literature, and some members of the dynasty became well-versed in that language and composed its literature in that language. The craftsman of Bidar were so famed for their inlay work on copper and silver that it came to be known as Bidri.

Once upon a time, the great Bahmani kingdom was acted as the social and cultural path between the north and south.

They stimulated the contacts with the leading countries present around the regions of West Asia (includes the Iran and Turkey too).

The social and culture contributiosn developed from there and that were later successor states too.

Also, Bahmini Kingdom influenced for the Mughal culture development.
