the British did not want to set up Steel plants in India even though necessary resources were available they prefer to import machines and metal products from Britain.
after 1899 when the British relax with their l Laws on mining licenses in India jamshetji Tata an enterprenuer Woh dreams of setting up a steel industry in India had surveys countries how to look for sources of iron ore and coal he used the advisor of an American geologist Charles page perin. Perin sent Charles weld who along with jamshetji eldest son Dorabji
surveyed the dalii Rajhara region of Chhattisgarh although they found rich iron ore deposits the site was not used due to the lack of a reliable supply of water later a better side walls discovered at the village of sakchi in Jharkhand it was close to deposits of high grade iron ore coal and other minerals. it was also near the meeting point of two rivers kharkai and subarnarekha. the Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO) was establised at this site. sadly jamshetji did not live to see his dream project. he died in 1904. the Tisco plant begin production in 1912. the Township that developed around it was named Jamshedpur in Honour of jamsetji Tata.
the outbreak of the first world war in 1914 walk to the advantage of India's infant Steel industry. industry the war force did the British to reduce the export of Steel to India. Tisco begin to supply most of the Steel needed for building new railway lines in India. later on it also begin to produce goods for use in the war. in course of time it emerged has the largest producer of Steel in the British Empire.
