The Seven Sister States is a popular term for the contiguous states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura prior to inclusion of the state of Sikkim into the North Eastern Region of India.

It has been primarily because of this publication that the nickname has caught on. It is a well known fact that the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura were named the Seven Sisters in 1972.

The sobriquet Seven Sisters originated from a book compiled by Jyoti Prasad Saikia, a journalist from Tripura to highlight the interdependence and commonness of the states. He named the book Land of Seven Sisters.
