The wheel was invented by the Sumerians in ancient time. Firstly, they invented Potter's wheel in 3500B.C.

So officially, the Sumerian's first wheel was the roller. This roller was basically a man-made log made out of wild fruit trees. It was use for moving the heavy objects from one place to other.

Sumerian's second wheel was the sledge. It was basically the curved wood sliding on the ground with heavy objects loaded on it.

Sumerian's third wheel was sledge with roller. The sledge failed to work on bumpy or rocky ground. So they added roller to it.

Sumerian's fourth wheel was a sledge on grooved roller. When moving the heavy objects onto the hills, it would slide down and it was very difficult to place the heavy object on the sledge again. To prevent the sliding of heavy object, grooves were added.

Sumerian's fifth wheel was two wheels with a fixed axle spinning between pegs. The side of the log was cut in round shape, that is what we call a wheel today. It made the human work much easier.

Sumerian's sixth wheel was two wheels with a fixed axle attached with bearings. They were made as a chariot and were pulled by an animal.
