The advent of the twenty-first century, advancement in technology, economy, and impact of the West have changed paradigms and life is not what it used to be a few decades ago. Sporadic changes have changed the life of man substantially. The old values still knock at the conscious door, the aged and the mature bear the brunt of changing value and the youngsters are unable to understand their perspectives. The transition has changed the norms of the society and we have to think before using the phrase 'proud to be an Indian' as here also we see increasing broken families, old parents being pushed to old-age homes, youth taking to violence and western trends of dressing and eating. Earlier, where we enjoyed our regional delicacies, pizza, burger, and momos have become a great hit. People go for fast food which not only harms their health but also makes their body prone to diseases. The combination of fast food and sedentary lifestyle has become a deadly one paving a way to lifestyle diseases like hypertension, diabetes, obesity and the like.
With the concept of global village mingling of people from different origin has become prevalent. As a result, the basic ethnicity is disappearing and what we see is a cosmopolitan culture where people have lost their roots as far as culture is concerned. More and more people are going to study abroad and like to settle there which in turn is causing our nation a great loss by means of brain drain.
All said and done, it has been observed that transition period always weighs heavy on the values of a nation and what would be more appropriate is not to get swayed by changes so much that our own identity is at a stake. The middle path, as suggested by Mahatma Budha will be more advantageous where we can get benefits from the changing atmosphere as well as retain our identity.
