BAREILLY: An elderly couple was found with their heads smashed in the upscale Premnagar locality of Bareilly city on Wednesday night. They were attacked while having dinner, police said. Late in the night, police released a sketch of the suspect and announced a reward of rs 25,000 on his head.
Piecing together the possible train of events, police said Neeraj Satsangi, 65, and his wife Rupa, 60, a bank employee, were having dinner when they were attacked. While Rupa died on the spot, Neeraj succumbed to injuries in hospital. According to police, the couple used to live alone in the house. Rupa was going to retire on July 31.
Neighbours heard Neeraj screaming for help and rushed to his aid. They found the door wide open and Neeraj lying in a pool of blood. Rupa was already dead. They immediately informed the SHO of Premnagar police station. Neeraj was rushed to hospital but he succumbed to injuries before getting medical attention.
After getting information about the incident, SSP, Bareilly, Muniraj G along with ASP (city) Abhinandan Singh and ASP (crime) RK Bhartiya arrived at the spot and collected evidence with the help of forensic experts. Three police teams, including that of a crime branch, were deployed to investigate the case.
“The couple is survived by their son, Jatin, 30, who is an engineer in the NCR and their daughter-in-law. He was informed about his parents’ death and he arrived on Thursday morning. Since all the articles in the house were intact, robbery doesn't seem to be the motive behind the murder and so far, we suspect the involvement of one person in this incident,” said Bhartiya
On Thursday morning, ADG Avinash Chandra, and DIG Rajesh Kumar Pandey also visited the house. They tried to allay fears of residents.
Giving details about the case, Bhartiya told TOI, “It seems to be a cold blooded murder as the killer targeted the victims’ heads. The way the couple was killed also suggests that the killer was not a professional. We have recorded the statement of neighbours and the couple’s son to gather information about this case. Also we have collected evidence. A breakthrough is soon expected.”
