v_{x} , the horizontal component of 'v' to the nearest tenth.

Solution,

When the ball is kicked its velocity has a verticle as well as a horizontal component.

The verticle component is given by v_{y} = vsinθ

and the horizontal component, v_{x} = vcosθ

Here, we have to find the verticle component.

putting the values,

vcosθ = 12cosθ

         = 12cos45°

         = 12×1/\sqrt{2}

         = 8.485

         = 8.5    (rounded to the nearest tenth)

∴ the horizontal component of the initial velocity of the ball,
