initially it was believed that atomic mass of beryllium is 13. But Mendeleev suggested that its atomic mass should be 9.

Mendeleev placed the elements strictly on the basis of similarity in their properties....thus he found that beryllium has similar properties of any element but it has been placed far away in the Mendeleev's periodic table...so he corrected the value and placed beryllium near to that element which has similar properties....it happened too in the case of gold and platinum
