The inner mitochondrial membrane has a number of infoldings known as CRISTAE .

  • The mitochondria have two membrane i.e, outer membrane and inner membrane.
  • Cristae are present in inner mitochondrial membrane ,which increases the surface area of inner membrane.
  • Due to large or increased surface area of inner membrane ,the rate of production of ATP increases.
