Photosynthesis produces food but it cannot produce growth nutrients as photosynthesis uses only carbon dioxide, water, sunlight, chlorophyll. Any of them do not contain nutrients of growth like iron, zinc,phosphorus,etc. Insects have high nutrients in them, so, they can provide these nutrients. Thanks!
