instead of adding 27 to a number,pooja subtracted it from the number and got a wrong answer.If her answer was exactly one-third of the correct answer. what was the answer

let x be the no. from which pooja subtracted 27

and let the correct answer be=y

therefore, x+27=y    =>      x=y-27  ..............eq (i)

and , x-27=y/3 .............(given that wrong answer is one third of the correct one)

   => x=y/3+27 ...............eq (ii)

now equate eq (i) and (ii)

Thus ,    y-27=y/3+27

            3(y-27)=y+81

              3y-81=y+81

              3y-y = 81+81

              2y=162

    hence , y=81

 therefore the correct answer y = 81
