Creating a File Upload Assignment

1. From your dashboard select the course you wish to create an assignment for

2. On the left hand side menu select "Assignments" (This may be light grey but you can still click on it.)

3. On the top right select the green "+ Assignment" button

4. Give your assignment a name

5. In the Rich Content Editor textbox type your directions (The directions may simply be: "Go to pages and type a three paragraph paper explaining the importance of Tone and Voice when writing a story then submit it here"

6. At this time if you want to attach a worksheet you can do so by going to the "files" tab on the right side and upload from your computer or your iPad you can. (Refer to previous tutorials)

7. For submission type select "online" and then select "file upload". (do not select any file restrictions)

8. Choose which students/courses get the assignment

9. Set your Due Date and then choose the available from and to dates

10. Select "Select Save & Publish"

Submitting a File Upload Assignment

From Desktop/laptop:

1. Students go to Word or Google Docs and complete the assignment and save (unless using Google Docs which saves automatically)

2. Students then go to their Canvas course where they will see they have an assignment notification.

3. Students select the assignment name and select "Submit Assignment"

4. Students will now have a choice: If they used Word they can select "Browse" and find their assignment and attach it. If they used Google Docs they click on Google Docs and attach their document.

5. Once the file is attached they student selects "submit assignment"

From ipad:

1. Students go to Pages or Google Docs and complete the assignment (Make sure students give the document another name if using pages)

2. Students then select the open in icon (box with arrow coming out) and choose "open in another app"

3. Select PDF

4. Select "Open in Canvas"

5. Students will see a notification that says "File Received" and it will open the Canvas app automatically if they are logged in

6. Students go to their dashboard on Canvas app and select the course the assignment is in

7. Select "Assignments"

8. Select the title of the assignment

9. Select "Submission"

10. Select "Turn in"

11. The available documents will appear, select the "upload" icon (red box with arrow going into it) on bottom.

12.The document will highlight in yellow and select "Submit (1)"

13 Students will be taken back to the assignment page and document will appear. They are done
