Breathing. During inspiration the dome-shaped muscle of the diaphragm flattens, and the inter-costal muscles pull the rib cage upwards and outwards. This increases the volume of the chest cavity and air is drawn into the lungs. During expiration the diaphragm relaxes and resumes it's dome shape.
