We know that 

sec²x-tan²x= 1

sec²x-1= tan²x

$\int\ {tan ^{2} x} \, dx$

$\int\sec^2{x}-1 \, dx$

And $\int\ sec^2{x} \, dx = tanx$

So,

$\int\sec^2{x}-1 \, dx$ = tanx-x
