Answer: b) 6 hrs

Explanation:

let the speed be S and distance be D and time be T.

given that the train runs 8/9th of the usual speed and the time is 54 hrs.

i.e.)  S=8/9 S , T=54 hrs.

now, distance D=speed*time

                        D= (8/9 S) *54 = 48 S

according to usual speed, T=D/S

                                               T=48 S / S

                                                T= 48 hrs.

    the total time that can be saved is 54-48=6 hrs.
