Diplomatic relations between china and Pakistan were established on 21 may 1951, shortly after the republic of China lost power in the mainland in 1949. While initially ambivalent towards the idea of a Communist country on it's boders , Pakistan hope that china would serve as a countryweigth to Indian influence.
