Printed texts gained its popularity in the 16th century, which was feared by many religious authorities. They were afraid that the printed media would cause irreligious thoughts in the minds of people and they would become rebellious.

One example is that of King Martin Luther questioning the beliefs of the Roman Catholic church.

With print media, the news spread very quickly. Therefore, the rebellions would increase in number very fast and the control over them would decrease.

The religious authorities and the monarchs feared the printed texts in the 16th century as they believed that people might misquote and misunderstand the write-ups that were in the book form and their authority over the people will be minimized, and voice of dissent would come up.

There was also no control over the things that were printed.
