The poem is a prayer to God by his small daughter who praises the skills of his father.
His father can work as electrician, carpenter, plumber, mason etc.
The little girl tells that her father must get good cream to take care of his nails or skin and save him from bees, needles etc.

In the poem "My Father's Hands Are beautiful" by Jeni Couzyn we see that the poet describes the hands of her father by giving examples of how his hands are able to fix the wings of a moth and also make machines at the same time.
She says that he must take really good care of them since they form such an important part of his life.
