Answer:

Interviewer: Madam, what is the update on Vikram, the lander?

Vinita Muttaya: Well, the latest pictures taken by orbiter reveal, Vikram did not have a real soft-landing. It is tilted but not broken at all.

Interviewer: That’s a good news. Does it mean there is a still hope ISRO will be able to establish contact with it?

Vinita Muttaya: Yes, there is a hope. We are trying our best!

Interviewer: Madam, what do you think could have happened?

Vinita Muttaya: We are analyzing the data. In my opinion, the lander when it was descending must have tilted a bit; and the speed breaking booster could not reduce the speed of the lander efficiently; that’s why it went farther from the planned landing site and had a hard landing.

Interviewer: Madam, had not the scientists anticipated it and taken measures?

Vinita Muttaya: The scientists had definitely anticipated it and we had taken measures. We had tried to land the lander in all odd situations. But the actual moon environment is a mystery to all of us.

Interviewer: Suppose ISRO fails to contact the lander and the rover, what will be the follow up?

Vinita Muttaya: First of all we are going to try all options to contact it. However, if we fail, we will start Chandaryan 3 mission to land it successfully.

Interviewer: Is ISRO mulling over the option to take any other space organization’s help in retrieving the lander?

Vinita Muttaya: At present we are not, but we may rope in any space organization to help us contact either the lander or the rover.

Interviewer: Do you think the scientists could have found better technology or approach to make Chandaryan 2 100% successful?

Vinita Muttaya: I personally feel the scientists worked day and night to find the best approach and technology. However, the possibilities in such missions are equal to infinite. It is kind of impossible to deal with the infinite.

Interviewer: What are the chances of establishing contact with the lander?

Vinita Muttaya: To be honest the chances are very less.

Interviewer: Do you think he rover could be perfectly safe?

Vinita Muttaya: That we can tell you only after we are able to contact the lander.

What were your personal Interviewer: Last question, Madam; what were your person reaction immediately after you lost contact with the lander?

Vinita Muttaya: I was shocked and petrified. I felt as if all my life had come to a standstill. But then life must move on. Thank you all for your time.
