Answer:

Arunachal Pradesh in the North Eastern Region of India has enormous potential for promotion of temperate fruit cultivation in a big way owing to availability of large areas under temperate climate. with nearly one third of the geographical area of the state falls under temperate climate. The state enjoys the unique advantage of growing temperate crops owing to its climate, altitude, soil and interest of the growers. presently, apple, kiwifruit, walnut, peach, plum, pear, chestnut, persimmon are grown in semi commercially small scale but the future is bright giving it a great scope for area expansion in non traditional areas of Arunachal Pradesh. Crop diversification through introduction of exotic temperate fruit in the state will enhance economic impact in the years to come. Keeping in view on climate change scenario and availability of huge areas under sub tropical climate, promotion of low temperate fruits needs to be emphasized framing research strategies for sustainable fruit production. Although some gains in temperate fruit production have been made recently, including newly introduced varieties, the lack of elite varieties and information about temperate fruit management are still major problems that need to be addressed.
