Metals differ from non-metals in physical and chemical properties. All metals share certain physical and chemical properties. Metals are usually shiny, hard, sonorous, malleable and ductile. They conduct heat and electricity. Non-Metals usually combine with oxygen to form basic oxides.

metal. metalloid. nonmetal. The elements can be classified as metals, nonmetals, or metalloids. Metals are good conductors of heat and electricity, and are malleable (they can be hammered into sheets) and ductile (they can be drawn into wire).
