This process occurs through anaerobic digestion. When plant or animal waste is broken down by bacteria in the absence of oxygen they release gases such as carbon dioxide and methane.

Uses of biogas

Biogas is environment friendly and has various applications. They are cooking, drying, cooling, heating etc. It is used in producing electricity, methanol and production of steam.
