Introduction speech on microorganisms friend and foe
Answers
We can’t see them. We can’t hear them or feel them, but they are with us. There are 10 trillion (10 x 1,000,000,000,000 or a million million) cells in the average body. For every cell, we have 10 times as many microorganisms – that’s 100 trillion microorganisms on and in our bodies! We are a walking, talking ecosystem.
But don’t worry – without microorganisms, we wouldn’t survive.
The main microorganisms in and on our bodies are protozoa, algae, fungi, bacteria and viruses. Most microorganisms are beneficial, for example, there are microorganisms in our large intestine that synthesise vitamins and allow them to be absorbed into the bloodstream. However, a tiny minority are pathogens (disease-causing agents). These pathogens, often called germs or bugs, are a threat to all life forms.
Hii Stuti:)
Hope your life's been amazing so far!!!
Most of the microorganisms are friends as they helpful for us in ways many microbes help us as the lactobatilus bacteria help in formation of curd and the nitrogenous bacteria present in soil help in increasing the fertility of soil most of them help in making medicines whereas many micro organisms like virus are foe.
96% of the microorganisms are useful or may not of any use or harm. Only around 4% of microbes are harmful. For example lactobacillus is used in milk. They are used in alcoholic drinks. Streptococcus is used in fermentation and is used in baking industries and to make a dough. Acetobacter, Rhizopus, Penicillium used in organic acids.
Although we are unlucky as the 4% of harmful microbes is generally present everywhere and we face them in our day to day life. Some of them are Rhino, influenza, varicella which are around our surroundings.
So, microorganisms can be both called as a friend or foe because though usefulness are very high their effects are harmful.
Keep smiling Stuti!
Keep helping others too:)
