Explanation:

  • Every species in its native environment has a natural predator which keep it's population in check which helps in maintaining the ecological balance of that ecosystem.
  • Introduction of exotic species means introduction of a new species to its unnatural environment without its natural predator to keep it in check.
  • This results in population explosion of that particular exotic species and it easily gain upper hand with already existing natural species which do have predators.
  • In addition these exotic species may function through a whole different mechanism which gives them advantage on uptake of nutrition and becomes a major competition to endemic species.
  • For examples, when the goats were introduced in Galapagos island, it led to the extinction of Abingdon tortoise of that island because they couldn't compete with the goats in terms of grazing efficiency.
