An Interview involves seeking information from a person on a one-to-one basis.

An interview refers to a one-on-one conversation in a formal meeting between an interviewer and an interviewee to collect data and analyse it.

There are 3 types of interviews structured, semi-structured and unstructured interview.

  • A Structured interview is a qualitative research tool that is particularly rigid in its procedures and allows minimal to no scope of stimulating the participants to obtain and analyse results. It has fixed pattern of questions.

  • A Semi-structured interview is a qualitative research tool that offers a considerable amount of freedom in its procedures and allows the considerable scope of stimulating the participants to obtain and analyse results. This mode is a little flexible in nature.

  • An Unstructured Interview is a research tool for data collection that allows the respondent to give information in depth and with more clarity. It does not have a fixed pattern. The questions are not homogeneous.
