Iodine is consumed due to its addition to fatty acid. Therefore the coloured solution becomes colourless. But when the same procedure is followed for vanaspati ghee, a similar colour change is not observed. As vanaspati ghee is saturated hydrocarbon the reaction does not occur there.

Lets the The example of Bromine Water which turns colourless when reacted with an unsaturated hydrocarbon. Here according to the question Iodine is unsaturated thus it changes the colour of Bromine water. But in the case of Vanaspati Ghee no change is observed thus it doesnt react with bromine water. It concludes that Vanaspathi Ghee is a saturated hydrocarbon and no hydrogenation reaction occurs with a saturated hydrocarbon...

Thus Answer - Hydrogenation
