Large amounts of extra-skeletal phosphorus are present mostly in combinations with proteins, lipids, sugars, nucleic acids and other organic compounds. Iodine is present in thyroxin hormone in the thyroid gland. Its deficiency leads to goitre and cretinism in children. (poor mental and physical growth)
