Answer:

Shylock tries a lot to kill Antonio and have his revenge on him when Antonio asks for loan from him for his friend Bassanio who wanted to try his luck to win Portia's hand in marriage and in order to impress her, he wanted to dress like a rich person. Shylock agrees on a condition that if Antonio fails to pay back loan, he will have to give a pound of flesh to Shylock from any part of the body he chooses. Bassanio takes the loan when Antonio assures him that he'll have enough money at the end of the time and successfully wins and marries Portia. He comes to know that Antonio failed to pay the bond and will be punished. He decides to save his friend and tells Portia truth. Portia promises him that she is ready to give shylock half of her property if he shows mercy on Antonio. Bassanio leaves for Venice with his friend Gratanio. meanwhile, Portia began to make plans to help Antonio and she, with the help of Nerissa, her maid and Dr. Bellario, a renowned lawyer and her cousin, is successful in rescuing Antonio as Dr Balthazar in disguise and leaves for Belmont. (Nobody, not even Bassanio knew of her true identity and everyone took her to be a young lawyer). Later, it was revealed that the lawyer was Portia and Nerissa was disguised as a clerk. The story ends happily with Antonio's lost ship coming back and the couples reunite.
