Ionic compounds conduct electricity in molten state because the ions are able to move freely and the inter molecular forces of attraction are overcome due to heat.

They are not able to conduct electricity in solid state because the ions are unable to move freely.

Ionic compounds are strongly packed and have minute intermolecular distances making the structure very strong . (In solid state )Ions cannot move freely in solid state .

In molten state or aqueous , the ionic bond is less packed and ions can move freely . In such a case , the compound can conduct current easily
