_______

Generally, bonds are not completely covalent or completely ionic. But, there is a totality on the middle boundary of a bond. The polarization of the covalent cation is due to the polarization of ion and deformation of its electron density by the power. Now, the limit of covalent and ionic character is measured through their Deepol moment μ.

Hence,

% Ionic character = (μ real / μ ionic) * 100%

% ionic character = 16(X_[B] - X_[A]) + 3.5(X_[B] - X_[A])^(2)

where ,
X_[B] = electronegativity of second element .
X_[A] = electronegativity of first element .
