There is a huge difference between myth, short story and an epic which is being described below in the following points:

Myth:

• It is mainly a story from the past maybe about Gods and men of courage.
• It is something that people believe in but is not true or does not exist.
• Eg.  Icarus flying too close to the sun until his wax wings melted and he crashed into the sea

Short Story:

• It is basically a part of a fiction or a prose and can be read in a short period of time.
• It does not include too many details about a character or a situation but can be well understood.
• Eg. The Blue Umbrella by Ruskin Bond

Epic:

• An epic is long literature or a very lengthy story that can be broken into smaller stories and parts.
• Eg. The mahabharata.
