Daniel O'Connell :

Explanation:

  • Daniel O'Connell  helped Catholics to win the proper to become Members of Parliament. He also wanted Ireland to possess its own parliament. He became called the “Liberator” because he sought for rights for a people.
  • In 1828, O'Connell stood for election within the Clare by-election. There was great excitement when he won the election by an oversized majority. This meant that Catholic people could now sit in parliament and after this, Daniel became referred to as The Liberator because he had 'liberated' the Catholic people from the Penal Laws.
  • As has been well said by nation patriot Daniel O'Connell, 'no man is grateful at the price of his honour, no woman are often grateful at the value of her chastity and no nation are often grateful at the price of its liberty'.
