Answer :

Iron combines with oxygen and water vapour of air to form rust state ➠ True

Corrosion :

The slow eating away of metals when exposed to the atmosphere is called corrosion.

Corrosion of Iron (Rusting) : It is an electrochemical phenomenon which occurs in the presence of moisture and oxygen.

At anode :

  • Fe → Fe^{+2} + 2e‾

At cathode :

  • O₂ + 4H^+ + 4e‾ → 2H₂O

Overall reaction :

  • 2Fe + O₂ + 4H^+ → 2Fe^{+2} + 2H₂O

Method used for prevention of corrosion are barrier protrction, sacrificial protection, anti-rust solutions.

Cheers!
