Iron + copper suplate
Answers
Answer: This may help you
Explanation:
Iron + copper sulphate
=> When an iron rod is dipped in a solution of copper sulphate, iron metal being more electro positive than Copper metal, iron will get oxidised as Fe2+ion and the Cu2+ion present in Solution will get reduced as Cu-metal.
The standard reduction potential of copper and iron are given below.
Cu2+ + 2e- ======> Cu E°=+0.34 V
Fe2+ + 2e-=======> Fe E°= -0.41 V
Since the reduction potential of copper is more than that of Iron Copper will get reduced and iron metal will be oxidised.
The over all reaction will be, Fe+CuSO4=======>FeSO4 +Cu.
The blue colour of copper sulphate will gradually disappear and at the end of the reaction, the solution will attain a pale green colour due to the formation of Ferrous ion.
Copper metal will be deposited as a red or red-brown precipitate.
