Iron does not burn on heating but iron filings burn vigorously when sprinkled in the flame of the burner. why??

 Heat Conductivity of Iron is  good,  it needs much higher temperatures to melt than the iron fillings as the Bar starts melting layer wise..
Also since the Surface Area of Iron Fillings is much greater than Iron Bar, so it makes them easier to absorb Heat from all the sides and thus melt at a lower temperature as compared to Iron Bar...
