Iron doesn't burn but the iron fillings burn vigorously when sprinkle in the flame of the burner.why ?

it is because in solid iron it's electron are tightly bonded but in filling electrons is loosely bonded so it burns

The surface area of a n iron article would be much larger than iron fillings that's why iron object does not burns in flame but iron fillings do
