Iron filings and sulphur powder were mixed together and divided into two

parts. The first part was heated strongly and labelled as sample ‘A’. The second part

was not heated and labelled as sample ‘B’. The samples were tested with a magnet

by bringing it near the samples and also tested by adding dilute sulphuric acid to the

samples. Answer the following questions based on the observations.

a) Which of these two samples will show magnetic properties?

b) On adding dilute sulphuric acid to the sample A and sample B, gas evolution is

observed in both the samples.

i) The gas evolved on adding acid to sample A is -----------

ii) The gas evolved on adding acid to sample B is -----------

c) Write the characteristic odour of the gases evolved in b(i) and b(ii)
