Iron filling and sulphur powder were mixed together and divided into two parts A and B .part A is heated strongly while part B is not heated. answer the following (a) did the material obtained by the twolook same ? Which part is the material with magnetic property (b) on adding dilute hydrochloric acid to both parts ,evolution of gas was seen in both the case .how will you identify the gas and the ame in both cases

a) No, the material obtained will not look same because after heating iron fillings with sulfur powder it changes to ferrous sulphide (FeS).

and about the magnetic property - i guess that the magnetic field will remain the same in both the cases.

b)FeS + HCl →FeCl₂ + H₂S↑

so, to know about the gas released we can place a burning candle on  each of the test tubes, if a pop sound can be heard then we'll know that kind of gas released is hydrogen.
