When NaOH is added with ferric chloride solution following reaction takes place:

3NaOH(s)+FeCl

3

(l)→

reddish brown

Fe(OH)

3

(s)↓+3NaCl(s)

We separate them by the filtration process as shown in the figure. The filtered residue of iron (III) is filtered out with the help of a filter funnel.
