In a mixture of iron and sulphur the components don't chemically combine....
They are just there so both iron and sulphur retain their properties.
So when we bring a magnet close to the mixture iron sticks to the magnet.
But when iron and sulphur chemically combine, iron sulphide is formed, that has no properties of iron or sulphur. It's something new
So when we bring a magnet close to iron sulphide iron doesn't stick to the magnet.
