Iron pipes for carrying water are coated with zinc because they do not get rusted easily. The process of coating the iron pipes whit a layer of zinc is known as galvanization. They provide protection from rusting. The iron pipes are made by mixing carbon and other metals like nickel, manganese and chromium.
