Iron => Fe ( s )

Steam => H2O ( g )

Iron ( II , III ) oxide

Following are the oxides of iron :

=> Iron ( II ) Oxide = FeO

=> Iron ( III ) Oxide = Fe2O3

There is another oxide of iron which is a mixture of above two oxides as

FeO + Fe2O3 => Fe3O4 ( Iron ( II , III ) Oxide ) Also known as magnetic iron oxide due to its magnetic property...

Chemical equation :

Iron + Steam => Iron (II , III ) Oxide + hydrogen

Fe ( s ) + H2O ( g ) => Fe3O4 ( s ) + H2 ( g )

Above equation is unbalanced because of unequal number of atoms of iron and oxygen...

3 Fe ( s ) + 4 H2O ( g ) => Fe3O4 ( s ) +2 H2 ( g ) ( Balanced equation )
