Explanation:

Since metals expand when they are heated. When iron rims are there dianeter increases, after fixing they cool down to get fixed tightly on their own.

It is done so because as on heating iron melts. So after melting we can give it a shape and can easily insert it into the wooden wheels as it is in molten form when heated. And after some time, placing it in the wheel it gets cool and so it is now fixed in the wheel...
